Confinement Soups for the Soul
by Zuo Yue Food
Zuo Yue Food co-founder Pauline was sharing recently on her confinement days with her firstborn. Back then, during the first week of postpartum, she woke up every 2-4 hours to feed and pump milk until she finally reached 80 ml, which was an achievement back then. But alas! She accidentally spilled the pumped milk due to exhaustion.
Heartbroken, she literally cried and cried over spilled milk. I’m sure any breastfeeding mummies would be able to identify with her on this.
Thankfully, she had nutritious confinement soups to aid her breastfeeding journey which helped her to rebuild the abundant supply of milk in the fridge in a short period of time.
The postpartum period is a resting time for mothers after childbirth. During this period, it is ideal to consume warm healing foods to speed up the recovery of their body and protect themselves from any exposure to any illnesses. Papaya Fish Soup is a top favorite among mothers in confinement. It is believed that this soup plays a vital role in boosting the milk supply of breastfeeding mothers. Fish contain high quality proteins and many essential nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, helping to build and strengthen muscles in our bodies. Other than threadfin, other fish such as snapper and codfish can also be incorporated in the papaya fish soup. On the other hand, papaya comprises antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits. Filled with nutrients and enzymes, it also improves the digestive system of mothers. This is critical as a healthy digestive system prevents constipation, protects the uterus, and prevents any pressure on your womb and body.

It is also a healthy spice which supports the immune system and reduces inflammation after birth. Hence, this mineral-rich soup keeps the body warm, eliminates wind, and speeds up the recovery of the body.
